Have You Ever Wanted To Be Elite? You Already Are…
Written by Dr. Daniel Kimbley
At one point or another in each of our lives we have looked up to someone who we believed was “elite” in their given field. It could have been a business owner, parent, role model or even professional athlete. While we generally like to hold our idols and gurus to higher standards, have you ever stopped to consider yourself as elite? Being a parent, spouse, sibling, son/daughter, executive, employee, entrepreneur, friend, or any other number of different roles we must take on over the course of the day requires serious work, commitment, and focus. And while, on the surface, these may seem far different than being an elite athlete, I’m going to have you consider that your roles, responsibilities, and outcomes for whatever you have going on in your life aren’t as different from an elite athlete as they may first appear.
Think about it:
· Elite athletes have deadlines, expectations, work requirements, and commitments they must keep. For them, these may be touchdowns, goals, or points scored. For you, these may be deadlines at work, commitments to your children or spouse, or even goals you have for your future. What you have going on in your life is just as important, if not moreso. Your milestones, outcomes, goals and commitments matter!
· Whether you like it or not, want to be or not, you’re an athlete. You get in and out of a car, squat to use the restroom, stand up from a seated position, carry your kids, carry groceries, and the list could go on and on. Even doing the laundry, walking up and down stairs, doing yard work, and cleaning the garage all require coordinated motor skills-complicated motor skills controlled by your nervous system. Being able to do these athletic maneuvers for the long haul is an important quality of life indicator.
While most of us wouldn’t like to think of ourselves as elite, the fact is, we are and we must be. Living a long, healthy, prosperous life is dependent on your level eliteness and athletic ability.
How would your life look different if you made choices from the mindset of being elite?
How might you change the course of history by showing up every day as the most elite parent for your child? What about as a husband? Wife? Business owner? Teacher? Employee? Leaving each place better than what you found it is a sure recipe for changing the world for the better. You functioning at an optimal level throughout each phase of your life will help accomplish just that.
If you are considering aging in style, and performing at your best, regardless of the phase of life you’re in, getting your spine and nervous system checked will keep you aging well for the long haul. A healthy nervous system benefits every level of eliteness, from superstar athletes to superstar grandparents. A healthy nervous system helps to keep you focused, committed and optimally functioning. It also keeps you healing on the inside and enables you to continue looking great on the outside.
Whether you like it or not, want to or not, you will probably live longer than you ever thought. Why not get there in style with health, vitality, and fitness, so you and your loved ones can enjoy the ideal life you all deserve?
